The Little Shepherdess by William-Adolphe Bouguereau - Canvas Print

About William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s The Shepherdess

Do you like The Shepherdess print?

William-Adolphe Bouguereau painted this work of art in 1889.

The work depicts a young Shepherdess. She stands alone in nature barefoot with her staff over her shoulders. You can see cows grazing in the background.

The clothing of the woman is very humble, suggesting a peasant background.

The painting is probably meant to be set in rural France. Bouguereau used this model in many of his works.

Today this work hangs at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

About The Artist

William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a French artist alive from 1825-1905. His work focused mainly on the female body and reinterpreting classical subjects in modern terms. He came from an upper middle-class catholic upbringing. Bouguereau was training to become a priest when he discovered his love for art. He chose to pursue a career as an artist instead of continuing his studies.

love it

Simply lovely. Gave as a Valentine's Day gift for my husband. Four stars because it didn't have any type of hook on the back for hanging.

looks great when hung. The work underlying frame is not super strong but does seem to go back to the original shape (picture dropped once).

Though the figures in The Angelus are in the shadows of the artist, I knew that before I ordered. We have natural light and a lamp near the work to illuminate it. I am very pleased with the print. My husband made a frame for it, which made a perfect finishing to this most precious work. I wanted it for a long time, and now that it is on our wall, I pause frequently to say the angelus as the paining prompts.

good price, good quality, shipped quickly.

Beautiful painting, but it did not include the full picture. Also there were faint scratches on the edges from shipping.

I got the 32 x 48. It came today and it is STUNNING. I can't wait for Thanksgiving! I change my dining room paintings out for holiday pictures for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. This one is going to be so awesome. My grandkids will always remember the big paintings in Gram's dining room on holidays. This is just so beautiful. I was surprised at the high quality.
