5 out of 5 stars
I read all the reviews on this product and was glad I did. The tips I took from it were, first that since the panels overlap, it may not be 144" exactly. As I was centering it on a 155" wall I was glad to have that tip. I laid it all out on the driveway with the panels overlapped to line up and sure enough, instead of being 12' it was 11'7". So I adjusted my centering. Second, for many reviewers, the panels also do not line up exactly at the top. I found up to 1/4" difference, so when hanging the first panel I tried to leave about 1/2" at the top to be safe, which was prudent.
I felt washing the wall it went on was harder than applying it. LOL. Once you get started with the first panel and it's hung straight (I had two people helping and I started each panel by applying top to bottom; we measured the edge of the first panel against the side wall to be sure it was straight, every few feet to be sure) instead of going right to left with each piece. As each successive panel goes up all you have to do is line up the design. If the next panel isn't 100% and I MEAN 100% straight the design can get off. Luckily the material is thick and easily stretched just a little to line it up. The design is also pretty forgiving and makes it hard to tell. Honestly no big deal. If you are very careful it's easy. Then once all the panels were up I flattened out the little bubbles that occurred; if air was really trapped in them I poked them with the tip of an exacto knife and flattened... took an exacto knife to trim it at the ceiling and baseboard. There were a couple places on the last panel (behind the fridge) near the middle where I'd had to stretch it to match the design which made it kind of ripply. In the red parts I just sliced the ripple with the exacto knife, flattened the bottom, then flattened the top over it. You would have to look very closely to be able to tell, and it's behind the fridge anyway.
Overall very happy with it. A relatively cheap and easy way to get design into a room rather than just boring paint. I will say the shipping was as promised, the product is nice and thick and heavy, the instructions were good, it was sticky but not TOO sticky (I really recommend being very careful and not having to peel panels off and reapply cuz no matter how careful you are it would stretch it), and it's not overly shiny which would make it look cheap. Some people commented that the design is a bit pixelated and blurry up close. I do agree with that to some extent. However very few people are going to be closer than a foot or two and from a distance it's 100% fine. YOU DO NEED PATIENCE, PRECISION, AND AT LEAST ONE PERSON TO HELP YOU FOR BEST RESULTS IN MY OPINION! I hope the photos help show how blah it was, the process, and the final outcome.
make sure you lay it out on the floor in advance.
Be accurate with your measurements and it's a good idea to ensure your wall is level. (we allowed an extra 1/4 for alignment errors).
The product is true to color in the image and is made of a thicker vinyl. It came rolled in a cardboard tube and arrived ahead of schedule. I rated it 5 stars for the quality of the material, packaging and ease of figuring out how to install it but mostly for how it turned out after we put it up. I most definitely recommend this product and I'm ready to put up another once I decide where to put it.
Make sure you realize that the panels are supposed to overlap, so line up the image!! People complain about this, but I don't think they realize how to line it up with about a 3"overlap.
Might be worth it to get some blue painters tape to hold the row alignment in place while you pull off the backing. Worth having a friend around to help. LOVE IT!
It came in 6 vertical rolls, printed in a way to create about .5-1 inch overlap.
The material functioned as expected, was easy to lay on, stuck well to a wall, and looks like it's going to hold up for a while.
The problem I ran into there was slight mismatch in the pattern among the rolls (most likely caused by inconsistent material tension during printing), so I had to either stretch or scrunch some bits to make it look like a continuous image.
Doing so caused some bubbles and stretch lines that could not really be removed.
Overall installation time - approx 3 hours.
Look: From a distance, even as close as the far side of the room, it looks pretty darn good.
But those bubbles and stretch marks become fairly apparent as soon as one approaches.
Overall:
For 100 bucks,I still think this was a fantastic deal. It covers the entire wall and makes the room look much cooler than anything I could've done on my own.
I may be a repeat customer, but not until I'm confident the mismatch issue is dealt with.
