At The Moulin Rouge by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - Canvas Print

About Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s At The Moulin Rouge

Want to decorate your space with this Moulin Rouge print?

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec created this work of art from 1892-1895.

The painting depicts a night out at the Moulin Rouge, which was a performance venue and dance club in Paris. The club is full of people. Two dancers dance the can-can in the center.

The main point of this work is to show people for how they really are. Many people try to portray a sense of glamour in an environment like this when in reality it is unglamourous.

This painting currently hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

About The Artist

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was a French artist who lived from 1864 to 1901. He descended from aristocrats but never inherited a title because he died before his father. He was very insecure about his height and appearance and was therefore often embarrassed to associate himself with upper class people. Toulouse-Lautrec specialized in depicting the Paris theatre scene. He was obsessed with the “urban underclass” and the lifestyle of prostitutes.
