John William Waterhouse’s A Mermaid
Considering getting this Waterhouse Mermaid print for your space?
John William Waterhouse created this wonderful masterpiece in 1900.
Finished this work while he was an Academic at the Royal Academy
This work depicts a lone young mermaid sitting alone on a rocky shore. She appears to be singing as she combs her hair.
Many believe the painting emphasizes the unmet desires of humans. Mermaids were traditionally thought of as enchantresses.
Mermaids allured seafaring men to their deaths. Besides, no man could live in the water while no mermaid could live on land. This signifies that any relationship between the two has failure as its destiny.
Today this work still hangs at the Royal Academy of The Arts in England.
